Sharing, Learning & Caring Together

MISSION STATEMENT

We believe that the children in our school will benefit from:

Experiencing and applying traditional Christian values
Enjoying a broad, balanced and challenging curriculum
Innovative teaching and an investigative approach to learning
Rich and varied learning resources
A secure and stimulating learning environment
A committed working partnership with staff, parents, children and the wider community
An ethos of support, challenge and encouragement to succeed
ETHOS STATEMENT

The school maintains a Church of England Foundation within the Diocese of Bath & Wells.

The Ethos Statement of the Diocese is:

Recognising its historic foundation, the school will preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church of England and in partnership with the Church at parish and diocesan level.

The school aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils.

Within the school, the spiritual, moral, cultural and social development of children is promoted both formally, through the curriculum and collective worship, and, informally in the way we encourage children to relate to each other, to teachers and other adults with whom they have contact.

Through imaginative use of the curriculum, we introduce discussion of moral issues in, for example, history, the environment and current affairs. Moral development is also encouraged through worship, when pupils contemplate issues such as prejudice, honesty, care for creation and each other.

Spiritual awareness is fostered in religious education and our acts of worship as well as in the wider curriculum. Periods of peaceful reflection encourage pupils to wonder and consider quietly each child's uniqueness, the wide meaning of life, and to think about their relationship with God and the world.

Cultural development is encouraged through history, art, music and language studies. The school is currently focusing particularly on multiculturalism and the marking of festivals of other cultures will provide an opportunity to embrace the many cultures present in the world today.

Additionally, teaching of courtesy, good manners and consideration are an important part of the school?s work. We praise good work and celebrate achievements, academic or otherwise, in the belief that this is a highly effective way of motivating learning and that it promotes the kind of positive relationship that is beneficial to all children and the school community as a whole.

The Head teacher holds a weekly Praise Assembly to celebrate and award certificates for achievements in and outside of school.
We're all currently very excited about our 'Building Learning Power' (BLP) project. We believe that WHAT we learn is less important than HOW! Find out more about BLP and how you can become involved through the 'links' page.
